Peter C. Yeh, MD

I am an Orthopaedic surgeon with additional subspecialty training in sports medicine, including caring for the professional sports teams in Los Angeles and Anaheim such as the Lakers, Dodgers, Kings, Angels and Ducks. I specialize in treating shoulder conditions including rotator cuff and labral tears.  My practice also includes all areas of sports medicine such as the elbow, knee and hip.

My interests in the shoulder include rotator cuff, instability and arthritic conditions that employ arthroscopic and when necessary, open techniques. I treat knee problems including cartilage, menisci and ligament injuries such as ACL ruptures and arthritis. For the hip, I am interested in problems athletes may face including muscle/tendon problems, labral tears, cartilage damage, and employ arthroscopic techniques for joint-preservation such as cartilage and labral repairs and reconstructions. In the elbow, I enjoy taking care of throwers and pitchers who might be faced with overuse problems and ligament sprains and tears.

Originally from the Maryland/DC area, I played competitive volleyball in college and was an electrical engineer before directing my focus onto medicine. My hobbies include traveling, exploring and sightseeing around the world, having been to places that include 6 of the 7 continents. Particularly memorable places have been China, Taiwan (where I am originally from), Russia, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Peru, Iceland, the Grand Canyon in Arizona and the California coast. I am also a self-proclaimed movie buff.

If you have pain and loss of strength and function in your shoulder and have been told that your rotator cuff tear may be irreparable, there is now a new arthroscopic surgical technique, Superior Capsular Reconstruction (SCR) that may help you overcome this problem.  Developed in 2007, SCR is a same day arthroscopic procedure that restores the bio-mechanical restraint for superior migration of the humeral head, thereby allowing rotation of the shoulder and improving function.  It can be an effective, less invasive alternative to a shoulder replacement.  Patients who are the best candidates are in their 50s-70s, have an active lifestyle and do not have severe arthritis.  Dr. Yeh specializes in this new shoulder procedure and in the video below, one of his patients recounts his experience and demonstrates his shoulder function.

The National Futures Forum on Monday, June 11, 2018 at Arthrex world headquarters in Naples, FL.

Dr. Peter Yeh recently spoke about shoulder problems, including the Superior Capsular Reconstruction, at the Arthrex Futures Forum in Naples, FL. It is a procedure that addresses irreparable rotator cuff tears and can improve a patient's pain and function. For more information about this procedure, please see Dr. Yeh’s description of this along with a patient testimonial in the video below.
